FAQ with Play Therapy
Frequently Asked Questions About Play Therapy
What is play therapy? Play therapy is a specialized form of counseling that uses play, the natural language of children, to help them express feelings, solve problems, and build healthy coping skills. With Synergetic Play Therapy, we also focus on helping kids learn to regulate their emotions and feel safe in their own bodies.
What ages benefit from play therapy? Play therapy can be helpful for children as young as three years old up through the teenage years. Since play is how kids naturally learn and communicate, it’s especially effective for younger children who may not yet have the words to talk about what they’re feeling.
How does play therapy help with behavior problems? Many behavior challenges are really a child’s way of showing they’re overwhelmed. Play therapy helps children practice new ways of calming down, expressing themselves, and feeling more in control, leading to fewer meltdowns and more positive behaviors at home and school.
How long does play therapy take? Every child is different. Some children may make progress in just a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. Together, we’ll create a plan that fits your child’s unique needs and keeps you updated along the way.
Do parents participate in play therapy? Yes, your involvement is important! While most sessions are with your child, I also partner with parents to share insights, support at-home strategies, and make sure you feel confident in helping your child thrive outside the therapy room.
